MONTICELLO, FLORIDA, JANUARY 25, 2017 — At FMB’s Annual Awards Banquet held every December, the bank awarded the 2016 F. Wilson Carraway, Sr. Award for Excellence & Community Service to Senior Vice President of Deposit Operations, Sonja Walker. Two other employees were also acknowledged for their dedication and contributions to FMB. Chief Financial Officer, Linda Palmer, was presented the 2016 FMB Horizon Award and longtime teller, Estelle Thompson, the 2016 FMB Employee of the Year Award.
The Carraway Award recipient is chosen annually for an employee’s dedication to FMB’s goals, commitment to the community, religious and value-building activities and continuing education. Sonja Walker joined the FMB family in 1977 as a bookkeeper and has worked in several departments and branches throughout her career. She took over the role of Senior Vice President of Operations in 2007. Her leadership role and commitment to FMB’s system upgrade in 2016 resulted in a successful conversion.
The 2016 Horizon Award was presented to FMB’s Chief Financial Officer, Linda Palmer. This award is presented to employees who go “Above and Beyond”. Palmer’s banking career spans 36 years. She began as an accounting clerk and has held many positions including a bank examiner with the Federal Reserve. In 2016, she took on multiple new projects for FMB. Linda’s efficiency and experience allows her to juggle numerous projects while retaining her calm and approachable demeanor.
Estelle Thompson was awarded The Employee of the Year award, voted by her FMB peers. Born and raised in Monticello, Estelle began her FMB career in 1993 after graduating from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Math Education. Estelle is the rock of stability in the Thomasville office and is dedicated to the Bank and a good friend that can be counted on by her fellow colleagues and customers of the bank.
FMB is honored to present these awards to three very deserving individuals. They are true representatives of FMB and its continued success—it’s people.
